Internationalist Warrior Remembrance Day is a day dedicated to the memory of military personnel and civilians who participated in armed conflicts outside their homeland, most often as part of peacekeeping or allied missions. In Russia and a number of other countries, this day is celebrated on February 15, timed to coincide with the date of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan in 1989.

History and Symbolism
Internationalist Warrior Remembrance Day was established to recognize and respect the merits of military personnel who served in other countries. They participated in conflicts in Afghanistan, Angola, Mozambique, Vietnam and other countries. Most attention is focused on the Afghan war, since it took a significant number of lives and left a deep mark on the history of Russia and other CIS countries.

How is Remembrance Day celebrated
Laying wreaths and flowers. Veterans, relatives and government officials lay wreaths at memorials to fallen internationalist soldiers.

Memorial services. On this day, churches hold services to remember fallen soldiers. Veterans often gather to remember their fallen comrades.

Meetings of veterans and families of the deceased. Veterans' organizations hold meetings to discuss and share memories of their service.

Minutes of silence and rallies. Many cities hold memorial rallies and minutes of silence in remembrance.
